2560 x 1600 High Resolution Gaming PC

by Rahul
(Tempe)

I want to build a gaming PC capable of playing games on a 30" monitor with 2560 x 1600 resolution. I plan on playing Starcraft 2 and I want to be able to put the graphics settings on maximum.

I know that this will require powerful components, so I am planning on building a custom gaming computer with an Intel core i7 920 CPU and an XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics Card.

I haven't looked at motherboards yet, but I'll find a good one that can support both of these components as well as around 4GB of DDR3 ram.

Will this kind of setup support 2560 x 1600 resolution on maximum settings? Or will I need to do crossfire with another GPU? Thank you!

High-res Gaming
by: Julien (Admin)

Firstly, let me tell you that nothing beats gaming on a great 30" screen with a powerful setup. After playing with this type of luxury, it's hard to go back to anything less. The experience is just so surreal!

Ok, so with an Intel core i7 CPU, a Radeon HD 5870 and a decent motherboard you will get some good gaming performance, even running at such extreme resolutions. But if you really want the best experience at 2560x1600 or similar resolutions, yes I would suggest you go for a CrossFire setup with another GPU.

If anyone is looking for an awesome build to handle any sort of resolution, check out our recommended high end gaming computer build. This PC will handle anything you throw at it, but we understand it's not within everyone's price range. So we also have our recommended budget and mid-range gaming PC builds.
