How To Clean LCD Monitor
Step By Step

Here is our step by step guide on how to clean LCD monitors. LCD technology is so much better than the old style CRT monitors in many ways. They are much easier on your eyes, and have a lot less flickering and radiation. LCD's are also better for the environment, and they run on less power than CRT's did.

To clean LCD monitors you need to take a difference approach than you would for your old CRT screen. With the CRT you would simply clean it the same way you would a glass screen, but with LCD screens you need to take a bit more care.

Be careful as LCD's are prone to damage and scratches, so make sure you read this guide before you go ahead and clean LCD screens without knowing what you're doing. Ok, here are the steps on how to safely and properly clean LCD screens:

  1. First things first, turn off your monitor so that the screen is blank. When the screen is off you will be able to see the dirty areas much easier, such as dust and finger prints.
  2. Get a soft, dry cloth and gently wipe down the LCD screen. A good example of a great type of cloth to use would be the microfiber type cloth that you use to clean sunglasses. Another great choice of cloth is a Swiffer cloth.

Materials to avoid for this step includes toilet, paper towels, tissues, or clothing. These types of materials can scratch your LCD monitor quite easily.

  3. If you can still see dust and/or finger marks, then you can use some sort of product to dampen the cloth with. Good choices are distilled water, or a equal amount of distilled water and white vinegar.

You could also buy a product that is specially used to clean LCD monitors, it shouldn't cost you too much at all. No matter what product you use, don't press down on the screen too hard!

Make sure you avoid any products that contain either ethyl alcohol or acid, acetone, methyl chloride, or toluene. These types of chemicals may cause a reaction with the materials that LCD screens are made of, and cause damage to your monitor.

So now you understand how to clean LCD monitors effectively, and without risking damage to your expensive screen. It's a good idea to regularly clean your screen and take good care of it, so that it may last just that little bit longer. Also, if you've a habit of always touching the screen with your fingers, try to avoid it to keep your screen free from fingerprints.
