Which Windows 7 For Gaming

by Omar
(Boston, United States)

Windows 7 is now well and truly here. But which version should I get for my gaming computer? There's Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Ultimate. A little help on which version is best for gaming would be great.

The Windows 7 Debate
by: Julien (Admin)

This is a good question, Omar. In the end your decision will depend on what version is best for your particular wants and needs. But I will point out the main differences between the 3 main Windows 7 versions.

First off there is Windows 7 Home Premiumicon, and most people would be satisfied with this version. But, and this is a big but, if you want Windows XP compatibility then don't get this version! Windows 7 Home Premium does not include it.

The next version up is Windows 7 Professional, and it includes Windows XP compatibility so if that's a feature you need, then you will be happy with this version. Otherwise, I'd stick to Home Premium because there's not much else you'd need with Professional.

The most expensive version, Windows 7 Ultimate doesn't really justify its extra cost in my opinion. The main additions it has over Windows 7 Professional is a feature called BitLocker (which a lot of people wouldn't really care about) and some extra language packs.

So which Windows 7 version should you get for your gaming PC? I would personally just stick to either the Home Premium or Professional versions, depending on whether you need Windows XP compatibility or not.
